Read Circe, get inspired, and write your own poem, short story, flash fiction, original myth, or other composition inspired by the book, and submit your writing for a chance to hear it performed out loud by professional San Diego actors! Check your local library or neighborhood bookstore for copies.

Details, Requirements, and Timeline

  • The writer must reside in San Diego County.
  • Up to three entries per writer will be accepted.
  • Maximum word count per entry, regardless of format: 1,000 words.
  • Entries must be inspired by, related to, or in reaction/ reflection of Madeline Miller’s novel Circe.
  • Deadline for submission is January 31, 2024.
  • Approximately 90 minutes of material will be selected to be read aloud at a live event celebrating the reading and writing community of San Diego in April of 2024.
  • Submission does NOT guarantee inclusion in the reading event.
  • Selected material will be read by professional San Diego actors.
  • All authors who submit will be notified by March 15, 2024.
  • Date, Location, Time, and other information about the Reading Event will be posted on the webpage by March 1, 2024.
  • This is not a publication opportunity. The work will be shared with the community via live in-person reading event.
