Special Programs

Voices of Ireland has become one of our most popular and beloved programs.  Classic and contemporary stories by well known Irish authors are woven together with Irish music and champion dancers, creating a memorable celebration of all things Irish.  Favorite San Diego Actors join us at the beautiful Horton Grand Theatre in Downtown San Diego. Tickets are available at Lamb’s Players Theatre Box Office at 619-437-6000 or at their website.

In late 2008 WriteOutLoud began doing special programs. Grossmont College invited us to participate in their annual Literary Arts Festival. We read several of the stories Grossmont students were studying, as well as other stories with diverse topics from diverse cultures. The program was a success, and in April 2011 will mark our third year participating in this festival.

Moonlight Cultural Foundation invited WriteOutLoud to be part of their WordsWork series, reading stories and poems by writers from the San Diego region. In addition, we did an all-Irish program in association with Ion Theatre Company, and we were invited to read a play Mary & Myra, by Catherine Filloux for the League of Women’s Voters San Diego. We also read Poems from Guantanamo for the International Museum of Human Rights at San Diego.

Our largest Special Program is TwainFest, an all day free festival at Old Town San Diego State Historic Park, produced in collaboration with the park and Fiesta de Reyes.  Guests enjoy literature and music of the 19th Century from 6 stages in Old Town State Park, as well as puppets by Prof. Pudd’nhead & Co., roaming literary characters and storytelling by historical characters of San Diego’s American Period.  An arcade of literacy based games designed especially for this event encourage reading, writing and spelling in a fun and creative way.
